I have a gtx480 and whenever it goes over 70c my sound starts to crackle and cause lag in-game, rendering games unplayable. The typical routine is to restart my computer or else the sound crackles in whatever application I run after. Any ideas on how to fix this sound issue.

Your video card is having problems. I'm not sure if your audio issue is "downstream" from your video issue, but I would focus in on the video card issue first.

Try a custom fan profile to keep the temps down. If the problem goes away at lower temps while still under heavy load, you can at least move your power supply lower on the suspect list.

As for your audio, I just don't think it "cares" how hot your video card is.

If your PSU can't handle the load placed on it by the card, then all other functions, including audio, could misbehave.

Or, if your video card has an issue keeping up, the audio side of things could suffer some sort of sync issue, that might manifest itself by making noise.
