More about upgrading 9800gt budget
  1. 550Ti should work.
  2. on the nvidia side, that would be 550ti. If you can squeeze a bit more, you can get a 560. I know that tiger direct has a 560ti 1gb for 189 before rebate but it apparently has heating problems.
  3. Anything over a 550ti is going to bottlenecked by your cpu, so that's a pretty good choice.
  4. AMD radeon 7770, faster than a 550TI, sips power, small card, runs very cool. Radeon 6850 is a great card too if you don't mind last gen, same power requirements as a 550ti, but its much faster (about as fast as a 560gtx)

6850 over 550ti. same price and a bit faster. in terms of tech 7770 is newer, smaller, and cooler but 6850 is better in raw performance.

  7. now the 6850 wouldn't get bottlenecked with my specs correct?

u should be fine. most of your parts still have alot of power to push the 6850.
