Which Memory???

I am building an Athlon based system using Micro-Star's K7T266 Pro motherboard and would like to know which memory would be best. I saw someone list Infineon (sp?) as the best performing memory to use with the chipset that is used on this board. On the other hand almost everyone recommends Crucial as THE memory to use.

Other than the brand, I have seen a plethora of different types of DDR memory - which is what I should use? Would the PC2100 unbuffered, non-parity, 2.5v, (Crucial part number CT326Z265) be the correct memory to use????

Thanks to any and all who can give me some advice!

Hi,

You speak of incompatabilities with Crucial Memory. Do you speak of them having incompatabilities in general or with something specific with what I am speaking about in my system?

You could always use the "memory finder" at Crucial.com to find the right memory for your system.

No, I was saying that Crucial is one of the few companies I have NOT heard of an incompatability with. Regarding other memory brands, I have heard so many people claim problems with so many brands, I can't keep track any more. There must be hundreds of brands of memory, too many to keep a mental list of which ones don't work with which systems, so I recommend the most universally compatable brand I can think of, Crucial.

The problem that I noticed with Crucial is that the PC2100 DDR that they have up is all Cas2.5. I have found some sites on Pricewatch that say they have Micron Cas2 DDR. Crucial is a consumer branch of Micron so Crucial or Micron mem is the same. However if you are going to get PC2100 mem make sure to get CAS 2 DDR.

I see, I misread your post. I was kind of surprised that someone would have had a problem with Crucial Memory. I have always heard good about them but I was concerned because of the memory being DDR and didn't know if things were different for that.

Thanks all who responded!

I would go with Crucial DDR. Cas2.5 will run at Cas2, and is probably made with the same chips as the third party Cas2 Micron memory, but on Micron PCB's. This would be a situation where I beleive the third party venders are rating the memory better than Crucial does, which is why I trust Crucial over third party venders.
