Memory limits for Win9x ?

Does windows 9x/ME have memory limits? Or MAY have memory limits?
I’m getting information that 512 is the limit, or “if you are having problems LIMIT it to 512” then Mr. Gates site says something about 800 being the limit…
Please help.
