Resolution keeps reverting to low res

Hello,
I have a toshiba satellite x205 gaming laptop with nvidia 8700m gt graphics card with vista 32 bit. a couple years ago my moniter went black eventhough i could hear windows start up so i fixed it by booting up and hitting f8 and having it start in a low res mode, but once it booted up it would automatically switch to a high res display. i just updated my drivers and now no matter what i set the res to it keeps reverting back to low res after restart....how do i correct this so it will stay in high res...?
