Sound card, worth it?

I will be using the optical audio out from the inbuilt audio on the ASUS P8Z77-V LX motherboard for my 5.1 surround sound system

Would it be worth upgrading to a dedicated sound card such as the ASUS XONAR DG for the optical audio on that?

I will be playing games such as bf3 and listening to lots of music

If audio quality is important to you, then I have seen an article or two saying that actual sound cards do produce a better overall quality sound. Whether it's good enough to be worth spending the money on a sound card depends on how important it is for you to have the best quality sound you can get.

i got asus maximus gene z board onbaord xfi2 its ok. but nothing compaired with asus dx like night and day.
