I guess it all comes down to how much your paying for the Q8400. Is it worth it or not, I don't know you didn't say how much.

My point is for $150 you could get a new Sandy Bridge cpu a new mobo and 8GB of DDR3.

This +1

If you're getting a used proc for $50 from someone then great! If you're going on the internet and paying more than that for a 775 socket it's time to move on.

You can get into a sandy/ivy bridge computer for a lot less than upgrading.

Not to mention that an i3 2100 is still probably snappier than 775 socket quad. You have to realize that 775 is old. 2011-1155-1156-1366-775

That's 3 generations of CPU's.

TLDR: Start a fresh build and save yourself the hastle with compatibility, using DDR2, and no Sata 3 for SSD upgrades.

I was talking about a Pentium G for that $150 but it's still faster in gaming than the X4's.
