Can I go lower than a 7850 card for this new build?

Primarily for video editing and mild gaming (CS:GO this summer), I'll be using adobe priemere pro/after effects a lot:

Samsung 500GB 7200 RPM HARD DRIVE

someone in a forum said that I needed a radeon 7850 or else I would be bottlenecking

what do you reccomend?

Well first off, I'd grab a Z68 or Z77 motherboard instead of the P67 board for the added features, since the prices are about the same. Secondly, it depends on how "mild" your gaming is. If you're planning to game in 1080p, you probably want at least something like the Radeon HD 6870 or 7770.

will a 6870 or 7770 be any less effecient tham a 7850 in regards to how it handles adobe priemere pro/photoshop?

the hd 6870 is better then hd 7770 because the hd 7770 performs like an hd 6850 which is way less in performance then hd 6870.the hd 6950 is better then hd 6870 and the hd 7850 is better then hd hd 6950 and gtx 560ti so the hd 7850 will be the way and even it will perform better in adobe premier pro and photoshop.

if I wanted to save a hundred dollars though, would I be bottlenecking by going with the 6870?

no hd 6870 will not be bottlenecked by i5 2500k processer its an good one just overclock it to get more performance and you will be happy.
