Is it safe to leave my computer off without my heatsink?

Hi guys, I just built my computer 3 months ago and I recently came across the problem that it would shut off every couple of minutes. After some research I came to the conclusion that my heatsink was the problem. Two of the the pegs on the stock intel heatsink came out and for the life of me could not get them back in. I cleaned the thermal paste off of my CPU. Is it safe to have the CPU without the heatsink while it is off? I won't be turning it on till my new heatsink is installed.

It will be fine just make sure to unplug power cord from the power supply.
