Need final thoughts

The 7850 is in an entirely different price category. Here are some from NCIX and Newegg.ca for you:

7850:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161405

They are around the $250 range.

GTX 560 Ti:

Thees hover around the $220 mark, but the first link has them at $199 after mail-in rebate.

If you can afford $260 + tax, then a 7850 should give a slight boost in performance. But considering you...

The 7850 and 560 ti trade blows, sometimes the 7850 pulls ahead and sometimes it's the 560 ti. I say get the 7850 since they're both at around the same price but the 7850 consumes less energy and produces less heat.

Something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102984

I think a GTX 560 Ti is a good choice. It's one of the picks in its price segment on Tom's monthly graphic card chart, and it will run a lot of games on higher details.

The 560TI is actually based on older technology where the 7850 is a new card from the ground up. It's replacement - the 660TI is supposedly due within the next month or two.

tough call. i guess it all depends if you really wanna spend less. the 560's still a good card, but the 7850 performs better in most games, save for the few that seems to be optimized for Nvidia cards.

the other unmentioned pros of the 7850 is that it requires 1 6 pin allowing crossfire on 650w psus, newer technology with pci-e 3.0 if applicable(since you have an ivy bridge build), more vram for higher resolution/multi screens and scales better when overclocked.

The 7970 got a huge performance upgrade thanks to a new BIOS update from AMD, read more: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7970-ghz-edition-review-benchmark,3232.html

I think similar updates are in the works for the 7850 and 7870 that will give them similar performance gains.

Yes I fully realize. However, other still-competitive GPUs like 6870 are also based on 2-year old technology as well.

Either way, you are correct that the GTX 660 should turn everything upside down, if 670 and 680 are anything to go by. Not sure if OP is open to waiting another month or so however.

the 7850 at $250 are usually overclocked / specialized cooling versions. The normal ones are usually $230 but most are out of stock.

HIS IceQ HD7850 with decent cooling at $225 after rebate:

Please keep in mind that OP and I are in Canada.
