Which 7870

hi,

After much debate on the card I have finally made up my mind to get hold of the 7870 (OC edn) as an upgrade of my current 6850. Only contemplate a single card and no future cross-fire (presume that by the time i get around to clamouring for it, it will get a new rig).

Only the trouble is which manufacturer do I pick. My personal choice is the MSI Twin frozr edn, but that is out of stock with most dealers, and deliveries are only expected in 30+ days. What seems to be in stock is the Giagbyte Windforce 3X edn of the 7870.

Any people have any idea how the gigabyte card compares against the MSI? Most reviews i could get hold of for the Giagabyte 7870 OC relate back to a guru 3d test, whcih was before the competition came out. But it does give it extremely good heat and cooling ratings (I dont plan on any after market coolers or any liquid cooling).

Also in my city the MSI (till stocks were present) retailed for about 30-40 $ more than the Gigabyte.

Any help would be apprecitated.

Although I'm not sure where you live this is the card I would get. It has the exact same cooler as the factory overclocked model so it can be overclocked just as good and the brand is one of the best.

Or this MSI if you live in the US (believe the one you wanted which is why I'm not sure where you live, also could check amazon if you don't live in the US).

Hi thanks for the reply.

Am based in India and here the sapphire cards are pretty scarce. Though I do agree that it makes for a vey good card.

As I said my personal choice was the MSI twin frozr but local stocks are out and re-supply is only expected in a month or so.

As for amazon the shipping and import cost pushes these cards to about 470 usd, while my dealer can get hold of em for around 400 - 420 usd. So I would much rather buy it locally than have it shipped from amazon .

Which is why am considering the gigabyte Windforce 3 7870. This is guru 3d review.

And here is the listing on new egg..

And ideas on how this would compare against the sapphire and MSI cards you listed?

By no means is that a bad card, was my third choice on newegg. It has good cooling just not quite as good as the other two I posted. Can your local shop get a hold of any other brands such as ASUS or XFX those are two others to consider (also Galaxy if they have one there even HIS is pretty good). Whichever of those you can get for the best price I would (but if one is only $10 more then get the one you want).

Well $470 in amazon suck then. What cards can you get in India? Please give us the option

There seems to to be some shipping issues. While the non OC editions are avaiLable for most manufacturers theRe is a real shortage of the OC editions of the 7870 in India. Most retailers can only provide xfx or gigabyte OC editions.

I guess I will be forced to sit back and wait for the better cards to come this side once again. Thanks for all the help peoplle.

Btw does anyone know when the GTX 670 is out ? The rumour mills are buzzing on it, should make for an interesting card it is kepler as its predicted.

Why do you want OC editions? You should be able to get a factory OC'd clock on the non-OC GPUs...

If the XFX is a Double D edition, I think it's going to be better than the gigabyte.

I agree I would overclock your self and then it can be a better overclock than the factory overclock too.

The current rumors on the rest of the 6xx line is Q3 2012 so don't expect them too soon. :/

Well am not really too DIY guy, and prefer the factory OC editions as they tend to be more stable for my expertise.

That said this has become a non issue, managed to convince a dealer to ship in a MSI twin frozr. Should have it by tomm. Cheers.

Thanks for the help!
