Thanks to TH I've put together a great list (IMHO) of parts, but I've been unable to decide on a case or hard drive.
As far as the case is concerned, I'd like to focus on quality of the case: cable management, durability, airflow.
Cases that have been suggested to replace my original choice of
Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0 are
Antec Eleven Hundred
Corsair Carbide Series 500R Black Steel structure with molded ABS plastic accent pieces ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
COOLER MASTER HAF XM RC-922XM-KKN1 Black Mesh, Plastic, Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
Lian LI PC-9F
Corsair 550D
Any suggestions welcomed, as a first-time builder I realize how important case-choice is but cannot judge well myself.

As far as the hard drive is concerned, I'm focused on 500GB-1TB, 7200 RPM.
I was pretty much decided on Western Digital RE4 WD5003ABYX 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive until someone told me it was for servers.
It seems like every one I look at has 15%-25% 1 egg reviews: 'dead when I got it', 'died within 6 months', 'terrible packaging; sounds horrible'.

Please help! Thank you. 8D
Suggestions on the rest of my build are still welcome, of course. :)

First off - do not buy parts based off Newegg reviews, 90% of the people who review products on Newegg are not professionals, you want to read professional sources like Tom's, Anandtech, HardOCP, and Johnnyguru when considering what parts to buy.

As far as case goes I'll gladly recommend the Corsair 500R and Antec 1100 out of those choices.
  2. You can get the Samsung by Seagate Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ/ST500DM005 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s for $60, because you have the SSD.
  3. I think I'll go with the Seagate Barracuda 1TB due to the charts I just found. :)
Those seem like solid choices g-unit, thank you; let's see if I can get another opinion.
  4. How does having the SSD affect your decision cin19? I don't need as big of a hard drive?

You can see what a finished build with the Antec 1100 looks like here:,3233-2.html
  6. What is the maximum amount of $$$ you are willing to budget for 'the right' case?

May I suggest the NXZT Phantom?

$109 with free shipping. (Free shipping offer / promocode ends tonight)

Far has hard drives I recommend this 1TB Western Digital for $119 (again with free shipping)

Western Digital has been ultra reliable for me. I have had practically no problems with them.
