at $220 its the cheapest 7850 i can find. my only concern is if the cooler is garbage or not. it looks like a big hunk of aluminum rather than the fins and pipes you always see. any thoughts on this cooler especially when overclocking?

More about : 7850

It has fins and pipes inside; the black plastic is a shroud to direct the airflow for better cooling. It will be great, go for it.

"If you have ever seen a stock Intel heatsink, the cooler on the 7850 looks just like it. Under the shroud you will find that there are no heatsinks for the memory, or the VRM's. This is quite disapointing for a card this powerful even if it is a non-reference design."

The HIS 7850 card uses the same cooler than Nvidia used in their reference 450 GTS cards. Its a flower design all aluminum cooler w/copper contact plate with no copper heat-pipes. Considering the 7850 has a similar TDP, it will work "ok" for stock speed, but I would not OC that car very much at all.

My brother has the Asus 7850, and that card, OCed to 1ghz core, is still under 60C at load, I doubt the HIS will be under 60C at stock clocks, you get what you pay for.

the his would probably be limited to how much it can be OC, and was probably manufactured for the bare use at stock levels of the 7850, which defeats the purpose that the radeon 7k series is one of the easiest series to overclock.

Ignore the latest two responses; they do not represent this card accurately. The HIS OCs just fine; it won't be as cool as an ASUS or a Sapphire, but you should expect at least 1Ghz.
