CPUs are predominantly silicon hence the name silicon chips. But yes, there are trace amounts of rarer metals such as gold but very little of it. If there was a lot, CPUs would cost even more than present.

Maybe search first?

Common sense would tell you they have a miniscule amount of gold plating, that is worthless, just like any "gold" connector. or the tiny gold wires used from the chip to the pins in some ICs. If it was worth anything you wouldn't be buying CPUs for 40 bucks or ICs for 5 cents. Your time would be more effectively spent at McDonalds

Yes. Back around 1980 there was more gold in various electronics than now, and I worked in the recycling industry for a company with access to a LOT of such scrap.

We gave it a good shot and concluded it was never going to pay. Most of what you have is gold plated, not solid... as I recall you have to use some process like electrolysis and the cost of that is more than the value of the end product.

AMD Chips are the easiest pins to harvest. yes, its difficult, but if you are to get some gold from these components, AMD is the way-to-go
