My graphics card was reading since day one at 40c to 47c I always thought this is to high for when this hardware is idle,
So I removed the heatsink cleaned away the factory thermal paste reapplied antec 6 now she is running at 32c to 35c I feel thats a big difference. My question is, is it recommended to do this after all we don't trust the factory thermal paste when it comes to our cpu's? also what about the north and south bridge. Yes I know about coolers but I am talking specifically about the thermal paste utilized.

NB & SB: don't worry about them. They don't get hot enough to matter since you're probably not overclocking them.

I'm sure you could improve most cards' idle temps with better thermal paste, but unless there is a problem in the first place it doesn't matter. What were the load temps before reapplying? Also I think that voids the warranty for graphics cards.

No, personally I don't think it's required to do that. 40-47C seems like an okay idle temps, but not ideal. Mine idles around at 38-43, with the stock thermal paste from the manufacturer.

If it's around 50C and above, I'd definitely change it.
Not sure about the warranty part though.

These answers seem all to be germaine but not based on any hard facts, On the surface I have taken a 5670 working at 40 to 47c and now working at 32 to 36, mention of warrantee's "I probably extended its life". My understanding is hardware operates differently with different hardware that we can agree to be factual. Most of these tech sites stress test these video cards and pick out the best performer at factory introduction. but I don,t see these tech's going outside the factory specs. There's alot out their about oc but very little if any about improving or modifying the factory offer. One can talk about warrantee's but those are out the window once we start adding some juice, and everyone does, No one builds a machine to do their email. I am not by any means an expert just an enthusist who does alot of research and my conclusion is the tech so called specialist need to get on the stick and some need to stop pandering to these said companies. Tom" hardware is one that I trust for unbiased reporting! I have been unsuccessful in finding usable data pertaining to my Inquiry. I Thank You all for your time and inputs....
