Hello there. So recently I bought a Palit Sonic GTS 450 1GB DDR5. Im gonna play at 1024x768 reso with a g620 (2.6ghz) and 4 gb ddr3 ram. So my actual question is, can the card play BF3 at ultra?

That's a very low resolution, I think it will play fine, but Ultra, I'm not sure.

But really, what's the point of playing BF3 on Ultra with a tiny little monitor?

I kind of doubt that your CPU is going to be handling BF3 on ultra, and I kind of doubt that a 450 can handle ultra with smooth framerate even at such a low resolution, but maybe.

I do think your CPU will be at least as much of a problem at that res as your GPU, though.

I recently purchased a GT 460 to replace a death in my step sons machine. Although he doesn't play BF3, he can nearly max out TF2 @ 1650 x 1050 using an OC'd E8600.

Yeah at that resolution most of the load is on the cpu.

oh damn. i never actually realized i was never using my monitor at native res. its native res is actually 1440x900.

  how did you not notice that? Those are different aspect ratios - you didn't notice that the picture was all stretched out and disproportionate?

Anyways, a GTS 450 has no chance of playing on ultra at 1440x900.

It runs like crap, 29 fps? Come on! It's not playable, stutters like hell. And I bet it's without AA.

Yeah that video isn't what I would call playable...

And most importantly, that's single player. Multiplayer is way more demanding, and that's what I was thinking of. Multiplayer is also where you're going to be wanting 40fps+ average. Could probably get away with 25-30fps in single player to get extra eye candy, but in MP smoothness starts to matter a lot more.

yea I agree. In multiplayer, if you have 35-40 fps average, when action occurs, you dip into 25s, and basically you won't be able to kill anyone with that. You'd aim for 45-55 fps minimum in multiplayer imo. My own GTX 560 Ti can play BF3 on ultra @1080p in MP, however, it's around 40 fps average, so it pretty much dips below 30 regularly.. I wouldn't call it playable. However, disabling AA does the trick.

well now thats the thing. im not alot into multiplayer. although i do play it sometimes, i mainly play the campaign, and when im bored, multiplayer. so since im a single player-er , i can max out almost any game there is right now, right? or not? and since ima noob, anyone can tell me whats AA?

AA is anti aliasing. It's image quality enhancing technique. Using it hurts performance, but makes the image way more beautiful. I doubt you'll be able to play campaign for long - it's quite short. It's not very interesting either. 9 hours and you're done. And the game is expensive, bad investment if you ask me. Instead you could buy some single player quality games, which you could play for hours. And yes, GTS 450 will max out many games at your resolution - just not all of them.

maybe cause a gts 450 is little less than a hd 6770 and with an hd 6770 i max out bf3 at ultra @1600*900 @30 fps. but then i have an i5....

well......

and yea besides, fps games ill be playing skyrim, assassins creed and war of the roses (when it releases). and also, ive heard that 30 and above is a playable fps on single player, so then, i can play it on ultra, right? (can someone just answer this with a yes or no?)
