High Level Mob XP Disappointing

Is it just me or is it not worth killing mobs 3-4 levels above you? In the
time / mana it takes to kill a higher level mob, I could have killed 3-4
lower level (around my level) mobs. Using some numbers just for example
(these are not exact but just to reflect my general experience with it), I
would get say 250 from the mob 4 levels above me and 110 from each of the
3-4 mobs I kill during the same general time frame. So griding through the
weaker mobs nets me equal to if not more xp (plus greater chance of drops
just because greater number of mobs being killed). I guess they did this to
get rid of powerleveling like in EQ where you can kill a very high level mob
(from one's own level reference) and end up with 5-10% of your level in xp
(with a very high level healer buddy helping you stay alive).

People have been saying that for a long time, but I just cant stand grinding
for more than like 15 minutes. I'll only do it if Im really close to
getting new spells.

You're right. I feel the same way, but here's how I go about it:

As a well-equipped rogue, I can solo mobs about 5 levels above
me and lower. 3-5 levels above me means that I _will_ win, but
have to rest/bandage/eat afterwards.

I can kill mobs 1-2 levels above me with 0 downtime as long
as they are not 3 or more at one time. I can kill 3 that are all
2 levels above, but I'll have to burn some time that the last
mob is sapped bandaging or using a potion, as well as burn
my evasion (and usually my Thunderbrew flask) as well so
that I can kill both attacking mobs with time to spare before
#3 wakes up.

I find that I can run through mobs even and 1-2 levels less
than me as fast as I can find them, especially if they're single.
But the returns on exp aren't as good. Another thing I've
found is that if I'm getting close to having my resting bonus
go away, I'd shelve my main and play an alt for a day or two.
That way, when I got ready to grind again, I'd have that
sweet-sweet leveling bonus to help. I went from 50 to 54
in two play sessions, taking a break with him at 52 to
let the resting bonus build back up.

The resting bonus makes a HUGE difference when you're
soloing mobs around 1-2 levels more than you. The bonus
exp alone is worth killing 2 lower level mobs when you're not
working from "rested."

Rom Gin left a note on my windscreen which said:

Much better to kill elites a few levels below you. Stacks of XP :)

My best XP was 1250 IIRC. Elite 50, me at 48 with rested bonus. Not
something to do when grinding really since as a priest I suffer extended
downtime and stuff like that leaves you with one less greater heal
potion and zero mana.
