Crackling/ Popping sound

For the past month or so I;ve been hearing a random crackling/popping noise coming from my pc I;m completely unsure of what it could be. I have't really found many threads addressing the noise coming from a home built rig and not from speakers. A few threads said it could be faulty hardware but I've been running perfectly fine no hiccups at all, some said it could be dying fans. I've only had my case for a year so its hard to think that but its not unruly. I;m going to clean them real quick, but my question is, has anyone here had this problem or know what the cause could be?
