When the realm servers go down, everyone tries to logon the the WoW website
to check the realm status, but because everyone tries this, the WoW website
then goes down.

So at the one point you actually care about realm status reporting, you
can't access it.

http://worldofwar.net has a realm status page that I've found to be fairly
accurate, it also has link to their UI mods page that has a lot of stuff on
it
