Not too many changes, but here they are ...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- World of Warcraft Client Patch 1.4.1 (2005-05-03)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Added minimum level requirements to all instances to prevent
exploitive behavior. The minimum levels are very generous and should
not affect the normal course of gameplay.
- Fixed a number of disconnect problems.
- Fixed a bug where periods would appear as commas.
- Fixed a font issue that could cause distortion of game text.

Discuss?

Like I said in another thread, there should be a limit of about 5-6
levels between the minimum and maximum levels in a group. WoW is the
powerleveler paradise :(

What was this? Were 60s escorting 10s through Scarlet Monastery so the
latter could get a bazillion XPs?

I had noticed an increasing number of these.

Yay!

Yes, and I'm glad they fixed it.

I second that yay! Not a big issue, but something that had been bothering
me.

Well, they wouldn't get good experince, if they were too low level. But a
level 60 could easily slaughter the boss and let thier twink run up and grab
the "Bind on pickup" blue drops. A level 5 with a 40 DPS axe that procs 15
seconds of hitting all opponents in melee range, etc...

Theres also that rumor of a teleport bug. Level 1 mules porting to chest
locations to loot them. Still not sure I believe it possible, but it does
seem to be a recurring rumor.

That would be overly restrictive. First of all, it would mess up PvP
raids. And PvP groups. And groups with the intention of portaling or
summoning someone. And you wouldn't be able to group up with some of your
friend's alts just to have a nice way to chat with them and see their
status.

Also, if there was a level restriction on grouping, it would have to be at
least 11 levels, as a level 48 and a level 59 can both get experience from
killing certain mobs ... it wouldn't make sense to limit against that.

Well, not only XP, but think about it: Bind On Pickup items have
no level limit...the assumption being that if you're fighting in there,
you deserve whatever you can get from there. But think about
a level 15 guy running around with level 50ish armor and weapons...
completely against everything that Blizzard intends with the
level limits on gear in the first place.

Watch a level 19 in Deadmines with a 32dps dagger. Sure, it's
fun to watch for a minute, but after that you realize just what an
exploit it is.

I hate to break it to you but even BOP objects have level minimums. What
good is it to slaughter the boss and pick-up a blue BOP that can only be
equipped at level 34 or after?

Blizzard did well in this regard - there are no loopholes around the
restriction that characters must only be able to use equipment appropriate
in power for their level. Even the quest rewards that seemingly have no
level restriction on equipping them are taken care of - you have to be of
an appropriate level just to accept the quest.

So twinking really isn't possible.

Level 10 gets blue BoP.

Level 10 vendors BoP for mucho money.

Level 10 twinks themselves out at the AH.

Vendoring a BoP, even a really high level BoP, will get you like 5g at max.
It's a lot more work for a high level to babysit a 10 through a whole
dungeon just to get a blue BoP than to simply give the level 10 5g.

The only way to prevent twinking is to prevent character-to-character
transfers, which of course, would upset a lot of people.

Hell, I "twinked" out someone before. Someone on my server (Cenarion
Circle) came up to me in Orgrimmar and introduced himself as someone from
alt.games.warcraft. He was a 21, so I threw 5g his way. Yeah, perhaps it
was a twink, but I don't think it was unreasonable ... that was the first
and last person from here I've seen on WoW.

Quest items are the only bind on pickups that are without level limits.

But you need to be of a certain minimum level to actually get the quest.

This is simply not true. All BoP items have a level limit. I ask you to
point out one BoP item that has no level limit and would be overpowered if
a low level used it.

I don't think this is possible, so how have you seen it?

Caveat: I haven't looked at every blue BoP on Thottbot, but I've looked at
some from Scarlet Monastery and all have level limits. Also, from my in-
game experience, I've never noticed an item without a level limit.

This change is meant to prevent level 1 using teleporthack, chesthack,
and that thing that puts you halfway into the ground level to prevent
monsters from aggroing you.

Use of these hacks allowed cheaters to go loot all the instance chests
with a level 1 (or very low level) character. They put this change in
addition to the specific detection code for these hacks. That way they
believe they severely limit further abuses from cheaters - who would
lose high level accounts instead of fresh accounts once reported and
banned.

Why not simply give the level 10 character some cash? Seems like that would
be a lot less hassle. When my low level character needs some money, I just
go on my level 60 guy and send him a few gold. Nothing exploitive about it.
It's money I earned, and it benefits me.

I honestly have nothing against it - I was just pointing out what
they -have- been doing once in a while on my server. WHY they've been doing
it is completely beyond me.

I couldn't be against twinking without being a major hypocrite...I'm
twinking my alts constantly, even though I don't play them much.

So basically all of these people whining about the possbility of a twinking

I didn't notice anyone here whining.

I know that for myself, I was just trying to make sense of blizzards statement
and some idiot jumped on me.

Yeah.

Bliz put in another smart feature to prevent some large benifits of
having a low lvl char using a high lvl weapon, and it's called Weapon
Skill.

I believe most people have tried training up a new weapon skill, and
noticed how little damage a low skill lvl does, and how fast the skill
rises when grinding it up, at least untill it's getting to 10-15 skill
lvl below max for the char lvl.

Probably more like escorting alts of seldom played classes to pick up class
set drops that would otherwise have been vendored.
