Hi

Just bought a zotac gtx680 and installed it

my rig is

Motherboard: ASUS P6T SE X58 S-1366 ATX
Memmory: CORSAIR 6GB DDR3 XMS3 INTEL I7 9XX PC12800 1600MHZ CL9 (3X2GB)
Cpu: INTEL CORE I7 950 3.06GHZ 8MB S-1366
Psu: COOLER MASTER SILENT PRO M ATX12V 2.3 700W
Hdd: WESTERN DIGITAL CAVIAR BLACK 640GB 7200RPM SATA/300 32MB

I get 8400 points in 3dmarks 11.
Is that normal?

I get a decent fps in battlefield 3.
But for some reason, i get very low fps in Borderlands, its even lower than with my old gtx460, and the same thing in batman arkham city?

Why is this??

Sounds like your cpu could be a bottleneck, overclocking your cpu will give you more fps with your 680 as it needs good cpu power for it to be used at its full potential. your 460 performed well as the cpu wasnt a bottleneck for it.

You will need a decent cooler for your cpu , and would be good to follow an overclocking guide if you dont have much experience with it.
Toms has a good overclcoking guide in the overclcoking section of the forums.

Perhaps a problem with Unreal engine... However, there was a video about PhysX in Borderlands 2 with the 680 as a prime example GPU, so I would't worry too much about that. As for Batman, I have no idea.

Have you reinstalled drivers from scratch? If not, download and install driversweeper, go to control panel, uninstall nvidia display driver and physx, reboot into safe mode, use driver sweeped (select nvidia - display and physx) click analyse and then clean then reboot and install latest drivers from nvidia's site (make sure you click 'perform clean installation').

Edit:
And no, i7 950 is most certainly not a bottleneck.

Yeah, I don't think an i7-950 is a bottleneck. Maybe if you were using an i3 chip or something.

Truth is, the newest drivers for the 680 gave me a black screen on startup.
The zotac drivers that came with the card worked however.
And, i tested the beta drivers from nvidia, wich i am running now and seems to be working.

I called the store i bought the card from and explained this to them and they told me to chill because according to them, there should be nothing wrong with the card since it works, performs good in BF3 with no artifacts or anything like that.
So i guess i have to take their word for it.

1920x1080 120hz

Tried the Batman arkham city benchmark now.
My settings were 1920x1080.
DX 11 OFF
no AA.
PhysX Normal.
No motion blur
Everything else was on max.

Score was:
Min 29
Max 124
Avarage 69

Very freezelaggy game, I cant play that with highest settings and dx11, it annoys me too much that it runs soo bad when im turning around and stuff. Not smooth at all. And the fps never go over 62 for some reason?
I dont have vsync and the fps was well above 62 in the benchmark?

I have a very similar setup to you, and I'm getting very good FPS across all games.

You should be getting more than decent FPS in BF3, Arkham City is VERY taxing when all settings are enabled (Ultra). Even my SLI GTX 580s hit a slight dip sometimes - but it should be WAY above a GTX 460's level.

BF3 is a very CPU-intensive game as well, will be worth overclocking it to at least 3.7GHz if you have air cooling or 4GHz if you have a high performance air or watercooling.

No, Fjeskiny, something is wrong here...

Can you try overclock your CPU and re-run the benches?

Thats what Ive been saying, you gotta overclock the cpu, running SLI with at only 3ghz on the processor is not gonna give you good fps, its going to hold it back and feel like a bottleneck, your low fps says it all.

Sorry man, I didn't read through the entire thread before posting my suggestion.

Poster's mistake, we're both saying that the CPU (powerful as it is) is bottlenecking your card. You need to overclock it and re-run the benchmarks

If its so simple as the CPU is bottlenecking my GPU, then why oh why do i have an insane FPS in bf3, but i have lower fps than my gtx460 in borderlands?

It doesnt make any sence to me.

if u overclock your cpu then you will get more juice and benifits of the card.:)

first place to start is to download MSI Afterburner and monitor your fps and gpu clock speeds in-game. Be sure you're 680 is at full 3d clocks - 1006 MHz or higher.

Also, be sure your refresh rate is correct in the Nvidia control panel.

Because certain games rely more on the GPU than on the CPU.

It's not going to hurt you to try this; we're trying to help you troubleshoot the problem here.

ok So i can use the MSI afterburner even tho i have a zotac card?

Graemevermeulen, I am ready to try everything, im going to buy a noctua D12 fan and overclock my CPU sometime soon.

But i cant help it if some things just dont make sence to me, I dont know much about these things. So i might ask stupid questions and have weird assesments.

Ok so i downloaded a program called ZOTAC FireStorm NITRO.

I run it in windows and it gives me this information:

Engine Clock: 705
Memory Clock: 6008
Shader Clock: 1411
Fan speed: Auto

Temp: 57

Hang on, the engine clock should be at 1015MHz... it's downclocked by 310MHz!
