I got a computer to repair of dell 915 Intel. it does not detect any type of ide hard disk or dvd rom. but the sata drive detects immediately. what should be the problem. there are two slots of sata and one ide in motherboard. any type of sata drive has no problem of detection. but when I detect any ide drive in master or slave both, my computer starts well but hangs at first start up screen after completing process bar written below ,,, www.dell.com
what should i do now?
after hanging on start up screen, I waited for 30 mnts for respond but useless
.
me needing your instructions instantly.

What do you mean by it doesn't detect "any" IDE drives? How many did you try? Were they newer or older IDE drives? Did you try them on cable select?

Do those tested drives work immediately in some other computer?

Did you try using a different ribbon cable?

Could just be the motherboard going bad if its like 10 years old as I expect. In which case, changing the motherboard would be your out OR getting rid of the old IDE stuff and getting SATA instead.

Those last two things are obviously last resort things after doing the first tests I said.
