What happens if I crossfire a 7850 with 7870.

What happens if I crossfire a 7850 with 7870. Will the 7870 throthle back to the 7850 performance or they will both run at their maximum?

you can always oc the 7850 to the 7870 performance.

The faster card will downclock itself to cope up with the slower card, you need to have the same Memory Clock & GPU Clock running for the best performance.

And it's highly recommended to CF identical cards.

I do understand that the speed as to be the same but the 7850 has 1024 SP and the 7870 has 1280 SP.

Is the CF combo going to behave has 2 X 1024 SP or 1024 + 1280 SP?

It make sense that the clock has to be the same but cutting the number of cores doesnt seem right?

It doesn't go like this...when you CF...nothing is doubled...both the HD 7850 and HD 7870 have the same "GPU" so they share the work load between each other.

You'll end up having 2 x HD 7850s...because the HD 7850 has the lower SP,.....etc.

Ok thanks for the reply. I wonder why they allowed to CF higher cards when the best one will be downclocked.

Well you can always get the same card and free yourself of such hassle :D
