Core 2 Quad on Q965 chipset?

Hi, i would need your help. I wanna upgrade my cpu from core 2 duo e7500 to any core 2 quad of Q9 series. However, my mobo has Q965 chipset, that officially doesn't support core 2 quad, but it shouldn't support 45nm cpu as well and i'm using E7500. I've downloaded SiSandra Lite and it tells me my mobo could support 333Mhz FSB. My mobo is HP 0A50h with the newest bios revision. So, could i upgrade my cpu to core 2 quad or couldn't I? Thanks for any answers.

  1. The Q965 chipset can support some quads, like the Q6600, Q6700, QX6700 and X6800 cpu's but HP's can be hit or miss, what is the exact model of the PC?

  4. should work will let you know as I have a q6600 in the mail to try this on the same chipset I have done research and people say it does tho mine is a dell brand q965 chip
  5. I am pretty sure that The Intel Q965 Chipset does not have native support for any core 2 Quad, Though Some Motherboard vendors may have a work around for this. the HP 0A50h does not have support for Core 2 Quads according to the specs.

EDIT: Note There is just no support from HP on a Q6600 or Q9400...or what have you.. You could frankenstein it and use another BIOS Chip that is from another HP MB that does support Core 2 quad...I am just making this up as I go, WHat I mean is you could try the Q6600 as it is essentially just 2 core 2 e6600s on one PCB.
  6. Yes but companys such as hp and dell modify motherboards and tell you they cant be upgraded so you have to purchase a new system I have done a lot of research and I have found out that the q6600 works in the q965 dell brand motherboards with updated bios i will beable to confirm in a week if this does 100% work as i have a q6600 in the mail ill post my results when it has arrived
  7. a q6600 should work can I have the north and south bridge of your motherboard and I can tell u more right now I have a dell OptiPlex 745 SFF and I am using a core 2 quad q6600 with the dell bios 2.6.6 motherboard Q965 C1 southbridge 82801HB/HR ICH8/R B0 as long as your motherboard match that your good to go heres a thread I have created regarding this http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2223309/intel-q965-chipset-core-quad-compatibility-100.html
  8. Did this end up working? I have an HP DC7700 with 2009 bios update I believe 1.16 and currently on E6300. Would like to try Quad's in 1066 realm.

    Thanks
