I'm planning on building a personal mATX gaming rig (so It'll be easy to take to college) sometime in July.

Here's my parts list right now:

MOBO/CPU Combo: i5-3570k + ASRock Z77 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...

SSD: OCZ Vertex 4 256GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

HD: WD Caviar Black 1TB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (8x2) DDR3-1600 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

PSU: NZXT HALE82 750watt (it's Seasonic built, which is a plus) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Heatsink: CM Hyper 212 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Case: NZXT Crafted Series Vulcan mATX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

DVD Burner: LITE-ON 24x - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Current total is slightly below $1500.

Any ideas for improvement? I already have a keyboard/mouse/monitor selected, which aren't part of the budget. I'm willing to spend up to $1600 for the hardware.

Thanks!

thats a cool case!

the ram may be a bit high for a micro atx build since the video card goes right to the end, but i think on that board only one side of the ram opens and closes to lock the ram in and its the other side, so it may be a non issue.

Make sure that the 670 will fit in that case, it is pretty nice. Honestly, I wouldn't limit myself with a microATX board and case, but thats entirely up to you. If you want compact go for it, but I personally don't see the necessity.

I can confirm however that Corsair Vengeance full profile will not interfere with the installation of a CoolerMaster 212. However, I can't say whether or not it will fit in the case and allow you to close the side panel.

I have that case. I just upgraded to the Fractal Mini to cut down on the Noise. the Vulcan is a good LAN party case.

I ran 2 x GTX570's in that case before I got my GTX 590. I don't recommend ever running SLI/CF on a uATX MB unless you are liquid cooling them. the primary GPU runs real hot as it is starved for air.

the HYPER 212 will fit, but it must be rotated 90 degrees and you can't install the side fan.

the maximum hight for a HSF with the fan installed is about 133mm. w/o its about 158mm, but the side is not flat so it may be less in some areas.

I recommend either a CM GeminiII S524 or a Noctua NH-C12P SE14. both cool well and work with the side fan.

the maximum length for a GPU is 9.8" without removing the center HDD cage. With the cage removed you can put any GPU you want. you have like ~14"

I would switch to the low profile version of the Corsair vengeance RAM, most HSF have issues with tall Ram heatsinks (like the two I suggested). its the same price. put the ram in before the GPU and HSF its easier that way.
