Sound coming From CPU

So recently, I've been hearing these sounds that come from my CPU whenever I play games or execute some processes. When I hear that sound, my game freezes after a couple of seconds until my PC freezes completely.

Specs:

Windows XP SP3
GeForce 9600 GT
AMD Athlon X2 4200+ Dual Core
4gb RAM

I understand how fustrating it can be when computers decide to do their own thing

CPUs in general do not makes sounds , how are you sure that the location of the is coming from the cpu it could possibly be the fan . If you could describe the sound that you are hearing that would also be helpful.

Also if you leave your computer idle does it freeze?

Also how long have you had your computer for?

No. My PC doesn't freeze when I leave it idle.

I've had it for about 3-4 years. Although, I haven't cleaned it for almost a year. Does that change anything?

Try give it a dust and see if that fixes the problem.
Also go to device manager in windows and see if there are any messages
