I recently upgraded my system to a 1366 i7 975 with 12GB of RAM and am looking into finally upgrading my trusty but aging GTX 280. My motherboard is the Gigabyte G1 Sniper and have a 850W 80+ silver-rated PSU so I will probably also keep the 280 as a secondary card for PhysX.

Due to a very good price I originally tried the 6870 but found it to be on par with my 280, except for the DX11 features and ended up returning it.

I am basically looking for a gaming card that will breeze through pretty much any game in the foreseeable future at a 1920x1200 resolution. FXAA, high Tessellation etc at a minimum stable framerate of at least 25-30 and an average of about 40-45.

The game that I found to be the most taxing on my current system is Batman Arkham City due to the extensive use of PhysX.
nVidia GPUs are preferred for that reason alone, however, I can still go the ATI (now AMD) route using the patch that allows my 280 to do all the PhysX work so I won't kick a better deal from the AMD camp out of bed over that.

Cards I am currently looking into are the 570, 580 and 6970 but only because I am not yet familiar with the 6xx and 7xxx series.

Thank you in advance!!!

On par as in, installed first the 280, then the 6870 in my system, ran the Batman benchmark with the same settings (so DX11 OFF) and ended up with the exact same score with both cards. 19fps min, 60fps max (I have V-sync enabled) and an average of about 45. With the DX11 features ON performance dropped a lot on the 6870, about 26 fps or so on average.

Those cards are basically the newest and most expensive ones around, I was hoping I wouldn't have to go that high for a 1920x1200 resolution.

The 580 is def. a consideration but on the used market. I was also looking at the 78xx models and been reading good things on their performance...

Bump, anyone?

Basically I am looking for a solution that'll do the job without having to resort to putting down one months' wage.
