New 3d Modeling/Rendering Rig

I need a rig that's suited for 3d rendering and modeling. I use Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop to name a few. I used to game a lot before, but that's not what I do often these days. But it wouldn't hurt to get a rig that can serve both purpose ^_^

Approximate Purchase Date: Month of July, 2012

Budget Range: 1200-1500 USD (but willing to invest more if its worth it)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: 3d Modeling and 3d Rendering in Maya, Zbrush, etc, Digital Painting in Photoshop.

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, Mice, Speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Amazon, Newegg

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: Intel CPU, Nvidia GPU, Asus, XFX, EVGA

Overclocking: Not interested in Overclocking

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: Screen size 24 inch, IPS Panel, LED. A big no no to TN Panel. Minimum 1920x1080. Since I do a lot color related work, so monitor color representation is of utmost importance.

Here's the build I have put together:

I have one question about the graphics card, should I go for a GPU with more CUDA core or more RAM. At times when modeling and when I have too many objects in the screen the screen starts to get slightly choppy or you can feel the latency. Any recommendations?

  1. Also, would you recommend a SSD drive as the primary drive and a separate HDD for data storage, or should just get a hybrid SSD/HDD ?
