New build wont start

the computer turns on, and the fans on the tower work and also the heat sink fan works. i get nothing on the monitor. my friend thinks its a ram problem, but im pretty sure it is compatible with the motherboard.

try taking the mb out of the case to see if you shorted the mb to a stand off or the i/o shield. if it boots when it sitting on top of the mb box then you know you have a short. if it wont post...check that you have the 4/8 pin atx power plug and the 24 pin atx power plug pluged in and the cpu fan plugged in. some mb if the cpu fan is not connected wont post.

hey, just checked on g.skills site. the ram is compatible with my mother board. im guessing this is a defected motherboard?

also, my power supply comes with a 24 pin connector (u can remove 4 to make it a 20 pin). i read here http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems#t1895014 that im suppose to plug the 4 pin somewhere else?

hey, i just checked my power supplys 20/24 pin connector. 1 of them is missing a metal piece on it. but when i turn on the computer, it works fine. here is a picture: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f234/drewster88/100_1724.jpg

im not sure what do to now, i get no post on the monitor. please help.

that normal for a 24 pin atx power supply. you ned to plug in all 24 pins on the atx plug. then near the cpu is a 4/8 pin white or black atx plug. you need to plug power into those pins too. a short is when you ground out an electrical part. bad shorts something goes pop and smokes. with mb people forget to use the case stand offs and short the mb to the case.

thank you! i completely forgot to plug the 4/8 pin. works like a charm now. but instead of 8 pins, i only had to plug in 4 pins. mobo runs GREAT
