How to connect to computer via internet?

Hello,I am wanting to connect my mother's Windows7 computer to my Windows XP computer. I have the ip address of my XP computer and I would like to connect the two though an internet browser. I would like to have access to my computer when I am at home. I always leave my computer on because I run a game server on it for my family. Is this possible?
