The computer is a month old and my family has been using it only for internet. As far as I know, they haven't changed any settings (no overclocking).
The operating system is ubuntu 12.04. I installed it using the text-based installer (CD).

It will run for a few hours. Then freeze. I'll force it off. Then a second later it will be turned on and run normally for another few hours. So, I assume it's not an overheating problem. Everything seems to be connected correctly.

I have no idea what's wrong. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and sorry if this is in the wrong forum. I didn't see any specific troubleshooting section.

Here are the parts:
CPU: Intel Core i3-2120 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor
Motherboard: ASRock H61M-GE Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
Memory: Patriot Signature 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory
Hard Drive: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Power Supply: Corsair 430W ATX12V Power Supply

I would run tests on the RAM and the HDD. Memtest86+ is good for testing RAM, but you'll have to test each stick individually for a few hours at least. A HDD diagnostic shouldn't take too long to complete. Start with that. If everything checks out there, then I would try a clean install of the OS (back up any files the family wants to keep, obviously). If that fails to solve the problem, I would test the power supply in another computer.

Thanks for the response! I'll definitely try all of this.
