Why slow wireless download speed on one laptop but fast on the other wireless la

Hello,
I get 17 mbs download on one wireless laptop, only 7 mbs on the other wireless laptop. What should I look for to fix the slow laptop.

The slow laptop is 8 feet from router with drywall wall between, the faster is 25 feet, no wall between computer and router.

First check to se what the negotiated speed is because you cannot transfer faster than that.

Second, run a hard drive diagnostic on the slow laptop. A slow or failing hard drive will have a slow write speed, and again, you cannot transfer faster than you can write to the hard drive.
