How far does dual graphics boost the perfomance?

Hi
I would like to know if 6670 crossfired with a8 3870k would improve the performance affectivly.
And which is better..to get dual qraphics or to combine a higher graphic card with the apu?

Solution
You'll get better performance out of a high end GPU, but you're going to pay a lot more for that performance than you would for a 6670. Crossfiring with the APU is a decent way to get middle of the road performance in a budget machine. With current capabilities, however, you're not going to get anywhere near the performance of high end discrete GPUs.

I dont think you can combine that with a better GPU. I think the 6650 in the 3870k is limited to a max xfire GPU of 6670. So go ahead and try it. See if it does what you need it to do. If not, upgrade to a single GPU solution that outpaces both of those. Such as a newer single GPU in the 7xxx family.

Either way your immediate options appear to be:

- Xfire the 6670 GPU and APU
- Run a single GPU that is better than your current 6650 APU/6670 combo

Well..if I crossfired the 6670 with the a8 using 1866 ddr3 ram would I be able to run modern gams at high settings? noticing that I use 1280*1024 max res.

High is not highest. High settings typically mean above medium, but lower than the highest possible. For future reference, when asking about running games at their maximum settings, saying maxed out or ultra gets the point across better.

That said, you probably could run most games at better than medium settings at that resolution. High end cards are pretty much exclusively used with much higher resolutions, with 1920x1080 being the low bar. 1280x1024 is 36% less information the card has to render, so you'll see much better framerates than you'd expect.
