Question about ATI HD 5900 Series

hello guys. First, I have to say that I am noob and I need some help.
I got ATI Raedon HD 5900 Series card (5970 2GB), with 2 GPU. Now my question is, why does it show only 1024 MB inside my Catalyst control center? Is it because singe GPU has 1024 MB ? Please explain. And sorry for noob question.

5970 is basically 2 5850's(each with 1GB RAM) on one card,and since it's shown as 2 cards(core0/core1) in the CCC,each core represents 1GB of GPU memory
