Desktop vs. laptop

Wondering what is a better value or how much better the desktop will perform over the laptop.

$1200 Laptop configuration:
MSI G Series 15.6"

intel core i7 3610QM(2.30 GHz)

8 gb memory ddr3 1600

750gb hd 7200 rpm

NVIDIA Gefore GTX660M


$1200Desktop configuration:
HP

AMD FX-8120 eight-core processor [3.1GHz, 8MB L2/8MB L3 Cache]

8GB DDR3-1600MHz SDRAM

1 TB 7200 rpm SATA

3GB AMD Radeon HD 7950 [Dual Bracket, DVI, HDMI, 2x mini-DP]

The desktop will trample the laptop in games. Processing wise... ehhhh... off the top of my head they should be close to each other, depending on what the task is.

Desktop is always more powerful for a given budget

The desktop is going to win this battle, but for $1200, you can build so much of a better desktop than that one listed.

The AMD desktop is CPU limited vs. the laptop which will outrun it in bechmarks.

The desktops video card makes it a better gaming system, but combining the same video card with an intel CPU would give you a much better gaming rig.
