Replacing power supply in dell pc

Hello,
I recently purchased a higher wattage psu so that I could run a video card on a new computer. When I installed it and turned the pc on, all I get is a solid amber light on the front, no fans start or anything. When I reinstall the old one everything is fine. O exchanged the new PSU thinking it was bad but I got the same results, any ideas?

  1. It would help if you'd be more specific on the old and new PSU. Please give us the brand and model.
  2. The new psu is a dynex 520 watt atx, the old psu was what came standard on a dell inspiron 560, I think the wattage is 250, definately under 300
