Is this a normal occurrence?

This has happened a couple of times. Every once in a while, all of my games will play at 5 or less FPS forcing me to restart my PC to get proper FPS. Cold this be caused by having my PC on too long or is there another reason? Should I be concerned?

Well, the full specs of your system would help, also what games you're playing, etc, times it happens. Is there a pattern? The reason I ask is because it could be some kind of scheduled background task running like Windows Update, Defrags, virus scanner etc.

My suggestion would be to turn Windows Update completely off, and any other kind of software that automatically checks for updates. Adobe Flash player and Acrobat reader is a big offender of this as well.
