Hi guys, new to the forums, I've just got a quick question...

Right, the new call of duty is out soon! not a great fan but my mate and I are going start playing it again, and he wants to upgrade his computer a little to run such games...

However I've only looked at intel cpu's myself, I have i5 in my machine, and i know a lot about them, however his mother board is a "m2n-sli deleux" and on ASUS website only AMD Cpu's are listed! which i know very little about!

We have 3 GPU's to pick from, we have tried 8600GT/8800GT and a 630GT, now the 630GT is not gona work with the current CPU which is "3.1ghz dual core athlon 6400" i think im right in saying that (correct me if im wrong) but when playing Black ops 1 (call of futy) with the 630GT frames jump all over the place from 20fps to 90fps NOT NICE! the 8800GT works the best with steady 45fps but in low-medium settings on black ops 1!

Now my question... what would you guys recommend for a decent amd CPU which will run the latest games like black ops 2 ect... here is the list from asus website "http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2NSLI_Deluxe/#CPUS"

PC Specs...
Power supply 550w
mother board m2n-sli deluxe
RAM 4GB DRR2
Vista 32bit

Hope you guys can come up with something, price range is £60-£100 (or just let me know if this is at all possible to upgrade!)

Thanks joe!

The AMD phenom x4 9950 would be the best CPU for the board with an BIOS update.

The 8800GT is probably the best out of the 3 GPUs, you can also try overclocking the GPU a bit to get some more performance out if it using one of these programs -

joe the issue is not the cpu or his mb but the age of it. his cpu is the same age as the intel 775 cpu to help you out. the problem is with older cpu is that with newer games they can slow down or be a choke point for newer games. the i-5 you have now is one of the top cpu for gaming. any gpu you drop into your system is going to run fine. if he has a good case and newist power supply. (atx 2.0 or newer) and the hard drive and cd-rom are sata drives. i would swap in a new amd fx-2 mb and and amd chip that has new newer 7000 gpu built in. it wont be as fast as the i5 but it should play most of the newer games fine.

the other option would be to pick up an intel z77 mb and drop in a 2 core sb celeron chip ie 630-8xx. that run in the 30-90 price range now then drop in an i5 or a faster i3 when he has the cash.

Typo there.
I think the means an FM-2 mobo with an APU like the 5800k

Ah makes sense! thanks guys brilliant advice! I think he should just get new rig, I've spent years trying to make my old one better but in the end you have to bite the bullet and spend some cash! my new rig cost just over £700 but i was surprised how cheap they are compared to when i got my last one over 5 years ago! Il see what he says to the advice!

Once again thanks so much!
