When typing on my computer it appears on my laptop!!!! Please help...

Hello all,

I'm a newbie to Tom's and quite ??? when it comes to networking stuff. I am on my wireless laptop HP Pavillion dv2000 and odd characters keep appearing as I type. It is coming from my wired computer downstairs. Yesterday I was responding to facebook message and my wife was upstairs typing a Yahoo email. Suddenly on her email (on the laptop) my typing appeared. A whole sentence magically appeared. When I was on WOW she was getting wwwwwwwwwwwwwwww due to my moving my character around. How is this happening???

The Laptop is using Windows Vista and is wireless.
The Computer is XP and is connected to a Rogers Cable Cisco DPC3825 Wireless Gateway.

The laptop has been having trouble connecting to the internet lately and I have been reading forums and tweaking settings. It will often say local access instead of local and internet access. I tweaked some settings of the cisco gateway online, and it seemed to help, but this was at least a week ago, and the typing problem only arose yesterday.

Help!!! Wifey is upset she cannot type emails while I'm gaming. This will not work for long. Even as I type this question the kids are playing C&C Generals and it is interfering with my typing.

Anyone seen this before? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
Stephen

It's the first time I hear something like that hm.....check what programs are installed on both systems, just in case if your mouse or keyboard are wireless turn them off and use usb ones for some time and see if that happens again.

Yimmi,

I can't tell you how embarassed I am. Well, maybe I can. Truely embarassed. It's kinda like when your mum and dad can't figure out why their printer isn't working only to discover that it is not plugged in. Well, I had 'upgraded' my wifey's mouse to a wireless one and was using a wireless keyboard downstairs on the desktop too. I feel entirely silly. Foolish. Relieved actually. Thought it was a networking issue, but turns out............it was just me.
Thank you Yimmi, you were right on the money.
Gratefully,
Stephen
