Hello,
Most Socket 2011 Mobos have been around for nearly a year now.

With IB-E due out soon - has anyone seen / heard about improved versions of the Socket-2011 Boards? I find it surprising that not much new has been released recently (or should IB-E work just fine on almost any ol'-2011 Mobo?)

I have not seen anything on a change or new release for X79 socket 2011 enthusiast boards. About 1 month ago we released a new Intel® Core™ i7-3970X Extreme Edition processor for socket 2011 so the socket isnt dead and will be going forward into 2013.

Just so you know the Socket 1366 which socket 2011 is the direct follow on for was around for 3 years and most of our server product of which this is socket is based off from generally have a much longer lifespan than the desktop products (socket 1155).

Thanks for the reply, Mr IntelEnthusiast.

So, would I be essentially correct in assuming that when IB-E "hits", existing socket 2011 Mobos will probably only need BIOS updates, or manufacturers may come out with newer "Revs" of existing boards with minor hardware tweaks?

It'll be interesting to see if IB-E incorporates a more effective thermal solution than the "garden-variety" IB uPs presently use.

Keepin' my ear to the ground....

Will any Haswell E, (EP, EX) be on socket 2011? Your hint about the "3 year" lifespan would seem to indicate some premium Haswell variant on 2011.
