Ok I was just wondering if i should either crossfire hd 6850 or buy a different card.

specs(only ones that really matter)
RAM- 2x4gb ram
Graphics- hd radeon 6850
Cpu- FX-8120(also whats your option on this, I like it do you think it was a good choice?)
PSU- 850W corsair enthusiast series

More about : crossfire

I'd crossfire. Your card is still pretty good and you got the psu for it. Should crossfire for a year or so then upgrade.

ok after that year do you have any cards I should start to save up for now? also whats your thought on the FX-8120 do you think that it will bottleneck any cards?

The 8120 was a bad choice for the money compared to a 2500K, but it won't bottleneck two 6850s. If you're willing to wait, you could save up for a 670, but I think Crossfire is worth it.

Well, the 2500K's $170 at any physical Microcenter store. What's done is done.

Not awful, but 2500K would get you 4.5 ghz and significantly better IPC (instructions per clock, the amount of performance you get at a given frequency) to boot.

(back to gpu) ok well how about this I was on another post and they said that one gtx 670 is faster then 2 6850's do you agree or not?

That's pretty odd. I feel like you must have settings turned down somewhere. I know I can't pull 40 with my 460, and it should have performance pretty similar to a 6850. I'll experiment later.

yeah i dont know i mean it flickered a lot but I really do think that it's a nice combination 8120 and 6850

Flickered? You mean you got bursts of very low frame rates?
There's no such thing as a "nice combination" in PCs. There's only bottlenecking and not bottlenecking.

no by flickering i mean that it will go from 30 to 50 very frequently so if im outside and looking at a lot it will drop to 30 but inside in small areas easily to 50 rarely ever below 30-25

And you've checked that it's really on all Ultra settings? DX11 too?

That sounds crazy to me. I'm redownloading Crysis 2 now to check out my own performance, which should be similar to yours. I may be totally wrong.

What are your clocks? Mine's pretty heavily OCed too, running at 850mhz over the default 720.

OK, now I'm ready to do some benchmarking. What should our standard test environment be?
I'm going to try running 30-second Fraps benchmarks on full Ultra DX11 without high-res textures in the first non-cutscene area of the story.

Update: oops. Have to go download the DX11 pack. A minor setback.
OK. Here we go.
In the battery park outdoor segment (no benching done indoors), I get 22-30fps, averaging 28. The first big combat scene felt lower, but I didn't record it.

yeah thats wierd... well I did have the high-res texture pack in so maby that helped it... what is your default clock? also try it with a medium dx11 i think that's what i played at.

THERE WE ARE! You said you played on Ultra! That's what I found so hard to believe. That sounds totally reasonable for medium settings with the high-res pack. If you disable it, by the way, you may see a boost. Give it a try.
