X4 965 BE, FX-6300 or i5-3570k?

All three of your stated tasks will be fastest on the i5, but of course it is the most money.

What video card do you have? I would say if you are buying a video card, too, then 6300+ better video card beats i5.

Video editing and encoding justify the i5 in my opinion. The FX 6300 is also a solid choice for video but for gaming the Phenom II is just as good if not better. It really depends on what programs you are using.

I own a 965be and love it, its a great budget cpu and it will do 4ghz. I would though go big if you are rendering and editing video. Definitely go with an i5 and even an i7 if you can afford it (its worth the money in my opinion). I use Xeons and a 3770K and I love the extra threads they give for rendering. You may want to think about rendering on a graphics card too. Its much, much faster. I suggest Nvidia, anything from the 4 or 5 series (not the 6, yet).

thats a really good price for the x4, but also the i5 is best for every task you mentioned. What video card do you have? maybe it will bottleneck the i5 for gaming if not powerful enough and that upgrade may be poitless. the x4 is probably the best value for the $$$, followed by the i5, wouldnt even bother with an fx processor.

With the extra money I'd probably get a larger SSD rather than a better video card.

I haven't bought a video card yet but I was thinking the HD7850 or GTX660. And about the FX, I was reading a review at Hardware Canucks that actually said it was really good for the money. If I get an i5 I'll only be able to get a 60 GB SSD so I am really stumped. Would the FX-6300 or the X4 bottleneck the video cards I was thinking of?
