The i7 will be far superior in 3d rendering and will still be ahead for gaming.

IF you can afford it then it's by far the chip to go for.

But The BenchMarks is a Whole Different Story here really close...

oh my god, you cant decide? ill help you, forget amd, and forget the i7, get the i5 3570k, and spend the money you saved from getting the i7 on a better graphics card. get at least a 7850, not a 7770. the i5 is good enough for maya etc.

He will benifit from an i7 for rendering.

Benchmarks are mostly GPU limited. Anything CPU limited the I7 will Spank the FX. Look at Skryim.

No question though, all professionals have I7's if money is no object.

If you can afford the i7 get it. The FX8350 competes at the i5 level.

the fx competes against the i5 in general apps, not gaming, the i5 spanks it in gaming.

Both the 2 options are going to fulfill your desires (Go with either of them):
* i7 3770k + HD 7770
* FX 8350 + HD 7870/GTX 670

Correct. And after rereading the OP I would agree get an i5 and use the money for a better video card. $100 difference get you a 7850 with room to spare

If you are rendering and encoding, go with an Nvidia graphics card. That will speed things up. I recommend something from the 5 series. I say go with the 3770K so you can get the extra threads, they are worth it when using pro apps, but not so much in gaming.

In the topic of CPU, I would go with the i7-3770k, since most streamers use that. It really helps with the graphic rendering.

If you aren't using the 3D applications in a professional capacity I also say the i5-3570k with a stronger NVidia card over a 3770k with a weaker one.

3570k + Nvidia 660 > 3770k + AMD 7770 . . . and yet will be about the same cost.

If you care about game performance you will rule out the AMD CPU right away and never think of it again.
