i'm trying to achieve a very simple task it seems but can't get
anywhere!!!! maybe i'm asking the impossible!! i have few cd's and dvds
with pictures on them arranged in tree-like folders. i want to be able
to see a thumbnail of all the pix and a bigger size image in the media
tab! is this achievable?? when i import the cds in the catalogue i get
thumbs + larger image in the media tab but as soon as i remove the cd i
only get the thumb and the annoying red question mark next to the cd
label!!!
is there a way to at least remove that question mark or even better to
have not only the thumb but a bigger size preview of the image in the
media tab???without copying the whole cd onto the hard drive of course
many thanks to any help
cheers

If you make the Thumbnails larger (640x640) while you have the CD in, and
then save the catalog it will keep those larger thumbnails in the catalog,
so you will be able to view the 640 thumbnails at any time.
That is the largest preview available to iView AFAIK.
You can always check out the iView user forums for more info.

No
iView is a image database system. It isn't an Image copy application.
If you wanted to have everything available at every resolution when the CD
is not inserted, the catalog would have to be as large as any CD's you have
added to the catalog.
iView can't make large full resolution images available unless it gets the
original files from somewhere. It is the same for all database systems.
AFAIK
At least iView lets you make larger previews that are always available.
Although with the larger Preview the catalog size becomes much larger also.

I posted a message to iView's users forum a while ago that pointed out
that by setting up a catalog with the thumbnails at their largest size
(640 pixels in the longest dimension) you can, using iView's free
Catalog Reader, show your photographs to clients and/or friends in the
form of a slide show (annotations and all if you like) without having to
send them the actual photographs.

thanks that great help. what about that annoying little red question
mark next to all folders, can that disappear? and also can i rename the
folder name like adding a number to the cd actual name?
