Hd 7970 gigabyte windforce or wait for ghz edition?

hey guys, im on the hunt for a new card. cant decide to pull the trigger now and go with a gigabyte windforce 7970, or wait and see if the ghz edition 7970's will bring. will it even matter? all i know is ghz edition will update reference points for card makers.

im also considering a gigabyte windforce gtx 670 but its hard to come by, and probably has a oc ceiling.

    This card has the core clock at 1000 mhz and so does this one;

    ASUS HD7970-DC2T-3GD5 Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

    This one is running at 1025 mhz.

    The one inzone linked is a GHz edition, and you can OC it up to 1125 using voltage tweaks.

    Also the GTX 670 is very good value for the price and performance, it's faster than HD 7970 at stock clocks but i guess all the GTX 6000 series has a limiting OCing ceiling as you said. If you're not gonna OC the HD 7970 get the GTX 670.
  3. that diamond looks good. but my question was to whther get that gigabyte one inzone posted since its already clocked at 1ghz. or wait to see when amd refreshes the 7970 to come stock at 1ghz, other card makers might release 1100ghz set cards, thats my concern.

    i only plan to oc the card a couple notches and have it last me 3 1/2 years or so. so i'd want it more future proof. gtx cards are too hard to come by
  4. I don't know if AMD is gonna make all the upcoming HD 7970s clocked @ 1 GHz, but I heard the Sapphire is preparing a Toxic Edition which is clocked @ 1150 MHz.

    Right now I'd go with the Gigabyte version, it's better cooling than the Diamond one.
  5. thanks guys, i noticed a very good sapphire one at $450 clocked in at 950 or 1ghz, at that price its a steal and it actually is cooler/quieter than the gigabyte i was looking at.

    for the money and quality there's no other winner. i guess with that toxic release its going to be their new flagship, and it sounds like a monster
  6. I've never heard of an OC ceiling on the GTX 680 or 670. In fact, what I have seen is those cards consistently hitting higher overclocks than the 7970.
  7. <_< gee thanks matto lol.
    well perhaps, but the 670 is hard to find out there. and if i keep waiting for stuff ill never end up buying something.

  9. With the exception of the Asus GTX 680 CU II ,from 1098 base clock to 1150 MHz that's not a good jump compared to 925>>1150. MSI Lightening HD 7970 reported to reach 1250/1275 MHz.
  10. yeah, but the msi lightning is very difficult to find, that would be my obvious choice, if the price didnt exceed $500 of course
