Approximate Purchase Date: August
Budget Range: After any rebates, 800 (can go higher to 1000 but would prefer not to with tax/shipping)
System Usage from Most to Least Important: School work, gaming, netflix, internet
Parts Not Required: Monitor, Headset
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.ca
Country: Canada
Parts Preferences: by brand or type: Intel processor, asus motherboard, corsair/kingston ram (ram brand does not matter as much as processor/mb)
Overclocking: Maybe not right now. I'll do more of it as needed/when I want to in the future.
SLI or Crossfire: I was reading up on a post that said that for some games (such as Starcraft 2 which I play 85% of my gaming time) it did not increase performance so I'm not looking to in depth into this.
Monitor Resolution: 1440x900, I think it's near a 19" monitor
Additional Comments: I would like something that can run games smooth while hopefully maintaining a decent graphics setting, plays movies cleanly, and using the guidelines above. Currently I need help deciding if I should go sandy bridge or ivy bridge. I've seen too many mixed reviews about it. I would like my power supply to be at least 80+ or I will not consider it (doesn't have to be modular but it would be great). At least 500gb harddrive, I won't need more but I've got a decent amount of games and movies so I don't want hd space to be a concern. AMD/Nvidea makes no difference to me, whichever one has best price to performance is what I'll get. Windows 7 of course . I also plan to get an external dvd/cd drive because I have a netbook that does not have an optical drive. If I may have been mislead in any form or way let me know from your experience please.

Thank you for the help guys. It means a lot and I really would like some guidance and reassurance when I'm spending this much money on something I'll be using 364/365 days of the year.
