Ok i was just wondering what kind of voltages i should stick around while ocing my duron 1.8 i have it at 1.65 right now, but motherboard goes to 2.30. same with video card it goes to 2.10 but whats safe and wont frie my components? thanks

so i shouldnt go past 1.9? i got a zalman cnps3100-plus cpu is running 23C idle right now. also any clue on the vid card?

ASAIK, there's no real benefit in upping the voltage to your vid card.

When you OC, only go slightly past the point of stable operation. This will prevent unstable operation when large power fluctuations occur.

Going too high will only generate more heat and reduce CPU hours.

Anything above stock isn't safe. The higher you go, the more certain it will be to frie your cpu in a shorter time. If you wait long enough, it will actually fry at stock voltage, but it could take 100 years or more if you're lucky.

its like taking harddrugs. An overdosis will kill you instantly, regular but moderate usage will (on average) reduce your life, but even if you don't use it, you'll die anyhow :)

That said, temperature is crucial. Electromigration is function of voltage and temperature. The lower your temps are, the higher you can set vcore while maintaining the same risk level.

Lol nice explanation, except i dont plan on keeping my comp for even 10 years. ive had my other p2 333 for going on 8 years though. and what do you mean it wont do much on the vid card? i see some people can only get like 425 on a 9550 and the people on the 9600 xts can get like 560, there must be some kind of voltage because its the same core. thanks

Aside from wusy's explanation, it could also be a question of binning.
For example, an A64 4000 is made from the same disc as an A64 3000. The 4000 usually comes from closer to the center, but there are other factors. A lot depends on how well they test out.

Ahh sorry forgot they were different cores,well that makes more sense now :) and what heatsink would you reccomend i was looking at the vantec iceberg 4 (witch version was the ati one the pro or non pro???) thanks.

naaa i have a zalman cnps3100-plus for my proc, my vid card has stock hs with no fan. plus i had to give my 2200 back lol so i got a 1.8 ghz duron for 15 bucks. ill change sig.
