I am running i5 3570k & MSI z77a g45 on Win7 x64, the setup is only a week old.
I was checking cpu-z and saw the cpu was running at 1.6Ghz which was expected as Speedstep is supposed to do that, when I switched to High Performance power mode the cpu went up to 3.4 Ghz, which again is normal and expected.
Now the fun part is, when in Balanced power mode, I tried to Install Visual Studio 2008 the cpu usage didn't go more then 5-7 % and the core speed was 1.6Ghz, the installation took forever, I finally had to cancel the installation mid way.
The same thing happened with Adobe Illustrator CS6 Installation, the core speed didn't nudge up a bit but while installing ai I started an zip function the core speed went up to 3.4Ghz.
Now the question is, are these setup/installation mechanisms not putting enough load on the cpu, that speedstep don't see reason to up the speed ?
And where is my turbo ?
