Hi, as the title says i want to know if this 6870 will fit in my H55MXV mobo http://www.ebuyer.com/340795-powercolor-hd-6870-battlefield-3-edition-1gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-dual-mini-ax6870-1gbd5-pp2dhg2

241.3mmx111.2mmx38mm is the size, but its not the height or length im worried about its the fact that there is what i think is a heatsink or something near the pci slot , im not sure if the card would go down far enough to slot in correctly as i have no card in at the moment.. just on-board

also would like to know if that GPU is worth it over this one http://www.ebuyer.com/322114-sapphire-hd-6870-oc-1gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-hdmi-dual-mini-displayport-11179-17-21g
the other is £15 less and comes with bf3

will also need a new PSU for this so while im here might aswell ask if this one is worth getting too http://www.ebuyer.com/269259-corsair-600w-cx-series-v2-psu-6x-sata-2x-pci-e-cmpsu-600cxv2uk

Graphic cards are designed to clear South Bridge heat sinks, so that's not an issue. What will be an issue though, is the fact that the length of the card will cover at least 2 and probably 4 of your board's SATA headers. There are rt angle low profile cables to remedy that, but sometimes it's hard to find the right ones depending on which way the "L" - shaped guide in the header is positioned.

thanks for the reply clutchc, that may not be an issue either as i only have 2 sata cables going into the headers so i could just move them along to the furthest 2 slots.. so aslong as the card doesnt cover all 6 headers i should be good?

also, any advice about the other card? not sure which 6870 is best for ~£150-160

As long as you only need 2 SATA headers, yeah, you should have no issue in that regard. There will at least 2 available for easy connection. I don't have any opinion one way or the other on the cards. I've used both Sapphire and Powercolor. The Sapphires were all perfect. One of the Powercolor cards had to go back. But that's hardly a decisive issue. From what I've read, Sapphire seems to be a bit more highly rated.

Btw, it looks like the Sapphire's housing will provide a bit more clearance for the SATA headers than the Powercolor card. If you have SATA cables with very short grips on the end, you may squeeze it in under the card, anyway. Just remember to never bend the SATA cable itself into a sharp right angle.... At least that's what we're told. Although this article tested the theory and found no issues bending the cables into sharp angles.
