Hi, I have an Aureal Vortex sound card, it's been conflicting with my LPT1 (printer port) for awhile no matter how I reconfigure it..... result = windows unable to shutdown or restart, so I disabled the LPT1, could someone help me to configure the IRQs please...
the link below is the current configuration of my devices (LPT1 disabled)

I tried to set it up from BIOS, it only allows me to use either IRQ 5 or 7 which they are already in use, please help, thank you.

Go into BIOS and set PNP OS to NO, then reserve IRQ5. That will force BIOS to coanfigure your peripherals around IRQ5, making IRQ5 free. Then edit the line in Autoexec.bat to read I5 instead of I7.

IRQ 5 & 7 no longer has conflicts, BUT now SCSI controller is disabled because it orginally used IRQ 5, but now since IRQ 5 is reserved, window configured it to IRQ 9... here is the link so you can see what's going on http://www.geocities.com/nysiracer/irq.html
which IRQ 9 is conflicting with others...
Please help, thank you

It shows your SCSI card on IRQ 9. You can try reenabling it in device manager if it is currently disabled. If that doesn't work, you can remove it from device manager, restart, disable Com2 in BIOS (if you don't need two Com ports), and it might show up on Irq3. This is all assuming that it's a PNP card, which I believe it is.

no matter what I do, it just goes back to IRQ 9... I tried to disable both COM ports, remove the adaptec scsi device, refresh, but when i restart the computer, it'll just go back to IRQ 9...

I replied to your crosspost, didn't say much that hasn't been mentioned here though. Apart from...

Do you actually need SB Pro emulation? If you are only using sound in Windows you may not. Disable it in Device manager and let your SCSI card have IRQ5, and LPT1 have IRQ7.

If you disable COM1 and COM2 in the BIOS, but Windows STILL lists them and reserves IRQ's 3 & 4, click 'disable in this hardware profile' in device manager and reboot. Windows should release the IRQ's.

Remove Com2 and the SCSI card in Device Manager, then get into BIOS and disable Com2 their-simply disabling it in Device Manager is not enough, because BIOS is still reserving an IRQ for it. You need to disable the Com port in BIOS to get that IRQ back. AND remove it from Device Manager because Windows will list it as there but disabled.

Is it because I have too many devices?
I had the same devices ever since I installed this new motherboard, it didn't give me this kinda problem before until recently I reset the hardware configuration...

I had 14 devices shared on IRQ10 on my CUSL2 without problems. There are only a few devices that need their own IRQ, Com ports, Printer ports, SB Emulation, PS/2 ports, some SCSI cards, and most network cards.
